Good afternoon students! I hope you are doing well and are enjoying your time at home. Today, I am going to talk to you guys about my time in college, at Suffolk University!
I started college in September of 2015 and graduated in May of 2019! I loved college, it was such an amazing experience and its where I met some of my best friends and my boyfriend!
Suffolk is a private, research school located right in the middle of downtown Boston. There are about 8,000 students in the undergrad program, and over 1,000 in the graduate programs. It is smaller than most colleges in the US but it has an amazing location, which helps students when looking for internships and being creative.
Suffolk also has one of the top law schools in the United States and it has a huge international population! You may of heard of Suffolk University Madrid and that's because it is one of our study abroad programs.
At Suffolk, I studied broadcast journalism with concentrations in film, social media and design. Journalism is a fancy word for people who work in news media. So, the people who tell the news on the tv, in the newspaper, on the radio, or digitally.
At Suffolk, we have a tv studio (Studio 73,) where the students are able to film the news, shows and different forms of broadcasts. I worked on SU News, where I made news stories, anchored and worked on set. This show was broadcasted to people at home in the city. I loved studying journalism and I want to be a famous journalist on tv and a documentary filmmaker with my own media company. Here are some photos of me anchoring!
During college, I was very busy and spent my time studying, working, interning, and volunteering. I had three jobs, one at CVS pharmacy, I was an OA and I was a SUper. An OA is an office assistant, who works in the residence life office. That means that I helped students with all of their dorm (on-campus living) problems and helped put together events for off-campus students.
A SUper is a Suffolk University Peer Health Educator and ambassador who works in the school clinic and assists students with all of their wellness (mental, emotional etc) problems. We had a "self-care relax" room for students to come in, use massage chairs, drink tea, and talk to us about what was bothering them. We also put together events, presentations and fun activities related to health on campus and got to travel to different states, go to conferences with 1,000s of other students, present and have fun!
I also was apart of ASB, which stands for Alternative Spring Break. ASB is held during spring break and its where groups of students travel to different states across the country and volunteer for the week. We built houses for people in need and helped clean and serve the community.
Lastly, I had a three different internships that were really cool! Internships are usually unpaid jobs for students to gain experience in what they're studying. I interned at The Film Posse, where I helped make documentaries for tv, such as The Swamp. Another similar internship I had was at WGBH; a popular television station in the states, where I also assisted on documentaries and television shows. My last internship was at Relovv; a fashion internship, where I got to do photoshoots and interview people on everyday fashion!
Suffolk was an amazing school, I had a great time and learned a lot! Heres a video of the school!
Have you thought about what college you want to go to?
