Warrior Strong
Wayne State University, or WSU for short, is located in the heart of the city of Detroit, Michigan. It was founded in 1868, and it has become the third largest university in the state of Michigan. The university is comprised of thirteen schools and colleges which offer close to 350 programs to nearly 27,000 graduate and undergraduate students. It's main campus spans over 203 acres of land with over 100 education and research buildings.
Wayne State University is a public research university, and it makes up the University Research Corridor of Michigan along with the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. These three universities have come together to "transform, strengthen, and diversify the state of Michigan's economy." Their goal is to help improve the economy and connect Michigan with the rest of the world!
One thing to note is that this university is a big commuter school, which means students have the option of living in a dorm room on/near campus, or students can live at home with their family and drive to school when they have their classes. I decided to live at home and commute to school as it was more beneficial financially for myself.
I attended WSU from September 2012 and graduated in May 2017. The first thing I had to do was familiarize myself with the campus in order to get to my classes which were in different buildings. Using a map like the one pictured on the left, I got around campus.

In university, students have to decide which program they want to major in and if they want, they can major in a second program or even minor in one. An academic major is a specific subject that students specialize in while working towards their undergraduate bachelor's degree which they receive after completing a certain amount of course credits. An academic minor is a secondary concentration where the students take courses that complement their major. Minors usually require less credits than a major does.
At first, I was undecided for what I wanted to major in. I had wanted to go into medicine for the longest time, but I wasn't too enthusiastic about majoring in a science subject. I took a psychology class in high school, and I absolutely loved it! So, I decided to pursue a major in psychology. I also decided to minor in the Spanish language. I had taken four years of classes in high school, and I wanted to continue learning about the language. By the time I graduated, I had a ton of science credits so my degree was a Bachelor of Science degree instead of a Bachelor of Arts degree.
I worked for a year after graduating university, trying to decide if I wanted to go into the field of medicine. I ultimately ended up applying to be a language assistant here in Spain, and I don't regret that decision whatsoever! I love being here in Spain. I have had so many adventures since last year: I have traveled, met new friends, seen incredible monuments and sights, and have started to discover myself. I wouldn't' trade this experience for the world!
